Philips’ latest AI-enabled Compact Ultrasound 5500CV portable ultrasound system makes high-quality diagnostic tools for cardiac imaging more accessible across diverse care settings. Designed for use at the bedside in hospitals and community-based centers, this portable system now brings advanced cardiac imaging to newborns, children, the elderly, and less mobile patients. Addressing clinical staff shortages and rising patient volumes, the next-generation 5500CV enhances efficiency with AI-driven measurement capabilities, reducing scan time by up to 50% while improving reproducibility, and diagnostic confidence — advancing cardiac care worldwide.
Expands cardiac imaging capabilities with advanced transducer compatibility and AI-powered efficiency
The Philips Compact 5500CV is fully compatible with the X7-2t and X8-2t transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) transducers, enabling high-resolution cardiac imaging. TEE is critical during catheter-based cardiac procedures, like valve repairs or closures, where precise imaging guidance is vital. This compatibility ensures that even a compact system can support complex interventions.
Leveraging Philips xMatrix transducers, the system supports xPlane Imaging, which means the system can now capture two cross-sectional views simultaneously using a single probe pass, capturing twice the clinical information in the same time as traditional 2D methods. Enhancing efficiency, the AI-powered Auto Measure function speeds up routine 2D and Doppler cardiac measurements by up to 50% while ensuring consistent results. Additionally, the latest S12-4 transducer compatibility extends capabilities to pediatric cardiac and neonatal head exams, improving care for premature and critically ill newborns.
Seamless cross-platform integration enhances usability and collaboration
The Philips Compact 5500CV shares the same architecture and user interface as the EPIQ and Affiniti ultrasound platforms, streamlining workflow and reducing training time for sonographers. Compatibility with Philips’ Collaboration Live enables real-time procedural and diagnostic support, as well as remote staff training. Additionally, Ultrasound Workspace provides a vendor-neutral platform for echocardiography viewing, analysis, and reporting — ensuring greater efficiency, consistency, and collaboration across care teams.
“With the new capabilities of Compact Ultrasound 5500CV, we advance portable ultrasound, ensuring healthcare providers get both mobility and high-quality imaging, while also maximizing their investment through our comprehensive ultrasound services,” said David Handler, Business Leader, Cardiology Ultrasound at Philips. “AI-driven features like Auto Measure streamline workflows by automating key cardiac measurements, while Live 3D TEE imaging provides real-time, high-resolution visualization. By bringing premium-level technology into a compact, accessible solution, we empower clinicians to deliver fast, accurate diagnoses across diverse care settings, improving patient outcomes and expanding access to advanced cardiac imaging.”
