Canon Medical Systems redefines mobile X-ray with dual-monitor operation

Mobile X-ray systems are essential for radiography in patient wards, operating rooms, and emergency departments, where rapid bedside imaging directly supports diagnosis and treatment. Because these units must be moved between rooms and positioned quickly around patients, mobility, intuitive controls, and workflow speed are crucial. Canon's newest model, Mobirex i9 / Smart Edition, has been designed to answer these needs through enhanced imaging assistance and exposure optimization.

A focus on workflow enhancement at the bedside
Canon has built the Smart Edition of Mobirex i9 around a dual-monitor concept, adding an additional display directly on the tube head. Unlike conventional setups that require stepping away to a main monitor to adjust settings or verify patient data, the operator can review information, set radiographic conditions, and check captured images immediately at the bedside. This reduces movement within tight spaces and shortens the time needed to confirm whether retakes are necessary, improving examination flow and supporting faster clinical decision-making.

Imaging guidance tools designed for accuracy
The Smart Edition integrates a 3D camera that displays live positioning feedback such as Source-to-Image Distance and tube incidence angle. When used with an optional laser marker, the system visually signals correct alignment through Laser Navigation, helping technologists achieve optimal projection angles with fewer adjustments. These positioning aids aim to reduce retakes and give operators more consistency when imaging patients who cannot be moved easily.

Exposure control tailored to the patient
Canon’s CXDI detector series remains at the core of the Mobirex i9 platform, and the Smart Edition continues to use CXDI-Elite’s Built-in AEC Assistance. In mobile imaging, exposure time is often set manually because AEC is difficult to apply at the bedside. The BiAA approach helps determine appropriate exposure timing per patient, balancing clarity and dose efficiency while maintaining reliable image quality under variable conditions.

Designed as an operator-focused mobile X-ray system
With its dual-monitor design, integrated positioning support, and dose optimization features, Mobirex i9 / Smart Edition differentiates itself from conventional mobile radiography systems by prioritizing bedside usability. It aims to reduce workflow interruptions, improve imaging precision, and support safer examinations for patients across hospitals and clinics.
