Global Collaboration on Cone-Beam CT Perfusion Guided Stroke Treatment

Cercare Medical and Siemens Healthineers announced a global collaboration to accelerate the adoption of Cone-Beam CT Perfusion (CBCT-P) in acute stroke care and leverage its capability to show the flow of blood through the brain’s tissue and visualize how well different areas are being supplied with oxygen and nutrients.

Solution architecture and technical responsibilities
The joint technical solution combines artificial intelligence analytics with advanced radiological hardware frameworks. The division of responsibilities utilizes the distinct clinical imaging competencies of each partner:
  • Cercare Medical provides the Cercare Medical Neurosuite, an integrated portfolio of vendor-neutral imaging software solutions that deliver automated perfusion analysis and calculate advanced metabolic biomarkers.
  • Siemens Healthineers supplies the Syngo DynaCT Multiphase system, a specialized 3D acquisition protocol that enables up to ten Cone-Beam CT angiography phases.
At a system level, the integrated software platform reads the multiphase acquisition data generated by the angiography system to construct near CT-like perfusion maps. This architecture visualizes the precise volumetric flow of blood through brain tissue, exposing microvascular disturbances, residual distal occlusions, and the no-reflow phenomenon directly to interventional radiologists.

Deployment and clinical implementation
The scientific and engineering foundation of the platform has been established in close collaboration with the medical team at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital in Switzerland. Implementation and technical verification are expanding through active deployment phases at three additional international healthcare facilities. The integration workflow embeds the standalone neurosuite platform within the hospital's pre-existing imaging networks, mapping standard perfusion parameters without requiring dedicated computed tomography or magnetic resonance infrastructure inside the procedure room. This configuration shortens the critical path to thrombectomy validation by automating data interpretation right at the treatment site.

Applications and interventional use cases
The primary application area for this platform is interventional neuroradiology during the acute phases of ischemic stroke management. Concrete technical use cases include intra-procedural tissue viability assessment, post-thrombectomy microvascular evaluation, and the immediate detection of post-procedural complications.

By deploying this combined system, stroke centers can achieve higher process stability, safety, and operational efficiency. The clinical reasoning for this approach is the reduction of diagnostic friction; eliminating the requirement to physically move a critical patient mid-intervention dramatically compresses treatment timelines and optimizes overall clinical workflows.
